Handmade Paper Flowers

Welcome to Tutorial Tuesday!!

I recently had a Snapguide follower ask me how I make the
paper flowers that I use on all my Papercrafting projects
so I thought I'd put together a quick tutorial.
I used the Flipagram format for a quick walk thru tutorial.
Check it out here....

I share my very favorite "rolled" flowers...

I like to make a handful of these while watching a movie
or the evening news...I love having a variety of sizes, paper patterns and textures
on hand so when I'm in crafting mode
I don't have to stop to mindlessly make flowers.
Having a stockpile on hand keeps my mojo flowing during design time!

I also shared the stacked & crinkled version.
I love this one as it uses up my scraps from the first one!!
(You know my motto...."don't waste a single scrap"!!!)

(I use a scallop or circle punch and punch the outer edges from the spiral cut paper)
This flower adds great texture...distressing the edges really adds a pop!
These 2 styles pair up so lovely together!

I make my flowers out of all sorts of papers,
but I am partial to vintage sheet music and dictionary pages
because they match just about everything and coordinate so nicely together.

Variations include: cutting the spiral in a wave. Rather than trying to draw a wavy spiral (which always seems to get all wonky when I try)...I draw the standard spiral and cut it wavy.
Subtly different effect but I love it!!

You can also add texture by cutting your spiral with a decorative edge scissor.
I like the scallop or pinking edge.

Watch for a full, more in depth flower making Snapguide tutorial coming soon.
I'll cover more designs and offer complete
supply lists, instructions and step out pics!

Today's Masterpieces

Check out the fantastic creativity unleashed at today's
ART @ the Farm
Matchbox Masterpiece Workshop.

This is our sample piece....

Everyone was able to choose a frame.
We had an eclectic variety of colors and styles to suit everyone's taste.
From traditional black gallery,vintage,
distressed & stacked to monochromatic black ornate.

We started with a pile of matchbox sleeves & drawers
and a plethora of beautiful paper covers.

Participants were able to fine tune a color palette
to match their personal decor or project theme.

One of my most favorite things about teaching creative workshops is
watching a group transform a selection of all the same supplies into
amazing and unique works of personal Art.
Each one turns out so different and truly one of a kind!

Susan worked with all neutrals.
She has yet to add her embellishments but I LOVE this color palette!
Can't wait to see the finished product.
(Love the ornate black matte frame she picked as well!!)

Leslie choose a colorful array of patterns and textures.
The unique matting of this frame really ties the art and frame together.
Well played Leslie!!

Kate's subtle pattern choices and deliberate color placement
create a lovely, eye-catching work of art!

Desiree's earthy color selection contrasted with the black & cream neutrals
feels warm and welcoming. Such a cozy piece!!

Rosemarie brought the art of collage to life!
Pops of fun, bold color & unexpected textures offer a true artful feast for the eyes!!

So SO much Fun!!
you won't want to miss our next crafty art filled day....

#TBT Favorite Fall Projects

Throw Back Thursday is here!
Today I thought I would share a few of my most
very favorite Fall
projects from days gone by...

I'll start with this lovely layout.
The beauty of this one is in all the layering and little details.
I also shared how to alter & distress the basic background papers, muting the colors to create a
softer more Autumnal feel to the brightly hued Bohemian Bazaar papers.

...it's all the little things!

Here's a Snapguide for a step-by-step walk thru sharing all the
techniques employed for this lovely layered layout.

My next favorite project is this
Accordion Fall Daily
I created pockets on both the front & back of each side of the accordion.
Photos, trinkets, gathered mementos and Fall ephemera can be added as the season progresses.
Makes for a creative & unique mantel display or tablescape feature.
I added "gratitude" cards each day and shared with family on Thanksgiving Day.

This project was featured in a Graphic 45/Petaloo Blog Hop so I created a fun tutorial for the hop....
check it out here:

And lastly, I wanted to share a few Fall DIY home decor projects.

I love this simple wreath and sweet little pumpkin-
(super easy and family friendly projects too!!)

Upcycled dollar store candles & matchbox sets.
(great to have on hand for hostess gifts!)

One of the questions I am asked most often is how do I decoupage so "cleanly"??
now I'm not exactly sure that "cleanly" would be how I would describe my process
but the end result does look "clean" ...so
I put together a short video to show the process I follow
for "clean" decoupaging.
and for even a little more pumpkiny fun...

Well, I hope you enjoyed this little walk down memory lane
featuring some of my favorite Fall projects crafted over the years.
What are your favorite Fall crafts or projects?

Thanks for visiting today!

Cutting Guide:
Abracadabra- cut:
1- 4”x12”
2- 3 3/4”x12”, then cut this piece into 5 pieces: 1- 3 3/4”x3 7/8”, 3- 3 3/4”x2 1/2” and a 1/2” scrap
3- 2”x12”
The remaining piece can be used to make additional tags.

Captivating Characters- cut:
1- 3 3/4”x12”
2- 3/4”x12”
3- the remaining piece will be used for fussy cutting elements and can be used to create additional tags.

Grand Illusion, Gone Batty and Enchantment- cut each piece into 2- 6”x12” pieces

Step by Step Instructions:
1. Start with the 4"x12" Abracadabra piece, scoring at 3 1/2", then score at 1/2” increments to 8 1/2” (this will be 11 scores).
Fold along score lines, creating an accordion- this piece will be the cover and spine for our mini pocket book. (Note the 6 valleys created- each valley will accommodate one of our 6 pocket insert pages).

2. Score the 6- 6”x12” Enchantment, Gone Batty and Grand Illusion pieces- score at 1/2”, 3 1/4”, 6”, 8 3/4” and 11 1/2”, then turn and score at 2”.
Fold the 2” score line up, then fold the next 3 score lines (creating 6 “W”s)

3. Adhere the 6 “W”’s (insert pages) to the cover/spine- starting with one of the insert pages, adhere the 1/2” scored piece of the “W” to the left side of the first valley, then adhere the other (end) 1/2” scored piece to the right side of the valley

Follow this same process for each “W” (insert page), adhering, one by one into each valley.

4. Adhere 3/4”x12” strip of Captivating Characters to the spine edge of the cover (front & back),  trim to fit.

5. Embellish cover of book with cardstock stickers and a flower.

6. Create Tag “Jacket” for book- score 2 large tags at 5 1/4” and 6” (measuring from the eyelet end). Fold score lines. Stack tags together (make sure front tag has the eyelet facing out and the back tag has the eyelet facing back). Line up score lines and adhere tags together.

7. Adhere 2”x12” Abracadabra piece to 3 3/4”x12” Captivating Characters piece, cut 2” off the end of this created piece. (we will use this removed scrap for a tag later).

Embellish with ABC stickers creating title pieces. Place the ornate metal label holder over “Fall” and set with brads. Add fussy cut elements from Captivating Characters.

Wrap title piece around the front cover tag and adhere. (be sure to center the embellished title area). Further embellish title/cover with cardstock border stickers.

8. Decorate “Magical” sticker tag with ABC stickers and ribbon. Adhere inside tag jacket cover . Adhere the 3 3/4”x3 7/8” Abracadabra to the back of the jacket. Tie jute and a metal key through the tag eyelets.

9. Adhere mini pocket book inside tag jacket creation- you can adhere with glue for permanent placement or use velcro so you can remove and replace as desired.

10. Create a variety of tags and journal cards to tuck into pocket mini-
1. embellish ATC tags with stickers & ribbon scraps.
2. use remaining paper scraps to create additional tags, tuck tags into pockets.
